Someone just brought this to my attention today: Outlook 2016, when it needs to prompt for user credentials to authenticate (if I delete my Exchange keychain entry for example), automatically fills in the user's email address in the 'user name' field rather than their username. This will cause authentication to fail for on-prem Exchange if the user simply enters their password. They need to edit the field to be their username. Has anyone else seen this? I assume this is how O365 authenticates and this is a bug based on that. We'll need to train users to do this themselves when they have a password change or other prompt. ![]() Outlook 2016 for Mac does not provide any client-side junk mail protection for any type of account (Exchange, POP, or IMAP). Note: While Outlook for Mac 2011 did contain the Junk Email Protection Level settings, when connected to an Exchange account, it did not perform any junk email scanning. ![]() Hello, We have been experiencing a recurring issue with Outlook 2016 that is pretty wierd, and I was hoping that maybe someone here has seen it before or otherwise could point me in the right direction for a solution. Basically, from time to time, when one of our users opens up Outlook 2016, an autodiscover dialog box will pop up saying: 'Allow this website to configure @buildingexcellentschools.org server settings?; This error message can simply be clicked out of, but it continues to reappear intermittently. The particularly strange thing about it is that each time, the e-mail address listed, is for a different person in the company, and never the e-mail address of the person whose computer is getting the pop-up. Yes, this is expected (and safe and normal), behaviour where you are using a 3rd party hosted provider that uses either a HTTP Redirect or an SRV record to allow thousands of different domains to connect to their systems using 1 SSL cert. Your can either click Yes and Remember which should suppress this going forward or you can whitelist their Autodiscover address via the registry which will auto accept it so no one gets that prompt (this is what is set by default of O365). This is for older versions of Office but if you update the version number for 2016 it should still be valid. Again - it is possible - but what reasoning would you have to do such a thing? Autodiscover's purpose is to make things easy - KISS method - Keep It Simple Stupid - Follow my guide below and you will not have any issues. You need to make sure your OutlookAnywhere and AutoDiscover settings are setup properly along with Split-DNS. OutlookAnywhere and Split-DNS are vital for future-proofing your Exchange configuration and making it work properly now, regardless if you use Exchange 2007, 2010, or 2013. For Exchange 2013, OutlookAnywhere is a requirement and Split-DNS is Best Practice. If you are on Exchange 2007 or 2010, and you do not have OutlookAnywhere enabled, enable OutlookAnywhere and follow this guide. You should always use NTLM over Basic authentication, as Basic sends the username and password in the clear, and NTLM is Windows Authentication. On Exchange 2013, you also have a new option called Negotiate, which is recommended. As you follow this guide, you will set the ClientAuthenticationMethod (Internal and External if on Exchange 2013) to NTLM and IISAuthenticationMethods to Basic,NTLM (and Basic,NTLM,Negotiate for Exchange 2013). Please also turn on SSLOffloading. As DNS is a vital component in any network, please make sure that Split-DNS is setup first before doing anything else. To make sure Split-DNS is working properly, ping the OWA URL and AutoDiscover URL (eg. Mail.domain.com and autodiscover.domain.com). These should both respond from an internal computer to the internal IP of your Exchange server (eg. Then from an external source, ping the OWA URL and AutoDiscover URL (eg. Mail.domain.com and autodiscover.domain.com). They should both respond externally to your external IP of the mail server (eg. Google earth pro for mac download pc. To confirm that Split-DNS is working correctly: From an internal computer: ping mail.domain.com ping autodiscover.domain.com These should resolve to your internal IP of your mail server (eg. From an external computer: ping mail.domain.com ping autodiscover.domain.com These should resolve to your external IP of your mail server (eg. To fix the external records (more than likely, autodiscover is the one that doesn't exist and needs to be created), on your domain's name servers create an A record for autodiscover.domain.com and point it to the external IP of your mail server (eg. To fix the internal records, the easiest way to do this is to create a DNS Zone (Active Directory - Integrated) for mail.domain.com (assuming that is your OWA URL) and then create a blank A Record and point it to your internal IP Address for your mail server (eg. Then create another DNS Zone (Active Directory - Integrated) for autodiscover.domain.com and create a blank A record and point it to the internal IP Address of your mail server (eg.
